Target audience: This session is directed to persons who are interested in the basic science, public health impact, and management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. Level of knowledge: It is assumed that participants are familiar with general concepts of virology and medicine. Objectives: At the completion of the session, participants will be able to: • Describe the mechanisms by which HCV affects the liver. • Recognize the cells that HIV infects within the liver. • Describe the impact of HCV eradication on HCV transmission, and the pitfalls.
